In the far Eastern Mediterranean sea lies the island country of Cyrpus. I had the chance to visit during a cruise to Egypt, Israel, Rome, and Greece. Our stop in the city of Limassol was a welcome relief being sandwiched between the whirlwind ports of Egypt and Israel. I used my time to chill, just checking out the charming old town district and sipping coffee.
The city of Limassol is on the Southern Coast of Cyprus. Limassol has some cool sights to see right in the historic old town. Namely the Limassol Castle, an ancient fortress built by the Ottomans around 1590. The castle site is actually much older, being destroyed and then rebuilt. This is the spot where Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre and crowned her Queen of England in 1191.
